We are so fortunate to have Momma Pepper in our Senior Sanctuary Program! She’s a little over 11 1/2 years old and was a racer as well as a brood momma. She’s so sweet and cute and lovable. She’s been here only a couple of days, and she’s made herself at home. In this photo, she’s fresh from a bath and feeling fine. Her ears add to her character!

Momma Pepper celebrated a birthday today! We are so thankful that she’s made it this far. Last month, she underwent a dental and had 5 teeth removed. Earlier in 2014, before she came to our sanctuary, she had 6 teeth removed. Momma’s mouth is pretty empty now, but she’s healthy and happy and enjoying her new canned food! After some time off the meet and greet circuit, she’s back and more than ready and willing to work at getting petted by the most people possible!
It happened almost overnight … a small lump developed on Momma Pepper’s neck. We were hopeful, thinking that is may be just an insect bit. But the next day’s vet visit pretty much confirmed what we had feared … a malignant thyroid tumor. Surgery wasn’t an option at all. Thankfully, a local oncologist has some options. A combination of thermo and chemo to shrink the tumor and give her many more months/years with no pain and little risk. And … it seems to be working!!! But, this treatment isn’t cheap, despite our discounts. So … We are excited to announce a new partnership with the crowdfunding website LoveAnimals.org, and we would love to have your help.
LoveAnimals.org helps organizations like ours to raise money for critically needed projects. For a small donation (think $10 or less) you can make a huge difference. Here’s how you can help:
Visit: www.loveanimals.org/help-momma-pepper and read about our project. We are trying to raise $1500.00 to help pay for Momma Pepper’s diagnostics and chemotherapy.
Click the donate button and give as much as you feel comfortable providing.
Tell your friends. Each project has links to social media like Facebook and Twitter.
Sit back and watch our project get funded and know that you made it happen. Super cool!
After two rounds of hyperthermia/chemotherapy, Momma Pepper’s thyroid tumor has shrunk and hasn’t been growing! These results are fantastic for an aggressive tumor like this. We can’t thank North Coast Vet Specialists enough for the wonderful care that Momma Pepper has received. And, it’s no surprise that she’s become a favorite at their hospital!
Momma Pepper would like to thank all the kind people that donated money or participated in fundraisers for her care.
Not only is Momma Pepper 13 years old today, she’s also a CANCER SURVIVOR!! She wouldn’t be alive today if it wasn’t for all the wonderful people that helped us help her – through donations, fundraisers and providing her with expert medical care.
THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
Today was a horrible day. We had to send Momma Pepper to the Rainbow Bridge. She was 13 1/2 years old. She was 6 months younger than our Momma Levity and passed exactly 6 months after Levity did. Rest in Peace and Run Free, Momma Pepper. Our hearts are aching.
